Long before Edgar Allan Poe was born, the Poe family was noted in Baltimore for its service in the American Revolution and the War of 1812. A wheel maker and later assistant deputy quartermaster general who was known to George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette, Edgar Allan Poe’s grandfather, David Poe Sr., gave much for the cause of liberty alongside his wife, Elizabeth Cairnes Poe. .

Known as the birthplace of American railroading, the B&O Railroad Museum gives visitors the chance to experience the story of American railroading at the very place where it began. The Museum is located on the historic grounds of the B&O Railroad’s Mt. Clare shops, houses some of the world’s most important pieces of American railroading history, and offers a range of events, educational programs, tours, and more for visitors of all ages. 

Highwire Improv is a nonprofit whose mission is to steward a community of artists committed to growth, collaboration, joy, and justice — in Baltimore and around the world — through improvisational theater. 

Highwire produces improv shows all over the greater Baltimore area and offers classes, workshops, and free community jams for improvisers to meet and learn from one another. It also has a robust applied improv program that helps organizations develop communication, creativity, and collaboration skills.

The Hippodrome Foundation recently had the opportunity to work with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, whose Seacrest Studios produced a  of the Hippodrome Theatre for children at National Children’s Hospital. We hope you enjoy!
